Hi Guys, Chris was going to update our blog one place at a time from the tour but he hasn't got around to it yet so here is a short overview!!!!!
The trip with mum was great. After Amsterdam we drove to Boppard in Germany via Holland. In Holland we went to a typical fishing village (Vollemdam) where we were shown how they make wooden clogs.
When we got to Germany we had cruise on the Rhine and saw a whole lot of castles. We also had a few beers at the local pub, a tiny place with only two beers on tap. The place we stayed there was really nice and the food great.
The next day we went to the Austrian Alps and stayed in a ski lodge with a very friendly Aussie owner called Don. The views were absolutely breathtaking and we would love to go back in the winter as it is very close to an awesome ski field. Don cooked us a BBQ that night and we all had a few drinks.
After Austria we travelled to Venice, through the Italian Dolomites which were amazing. We stopped there for lunch and had very yummy pasta. We stayed in Venice for 2 nights (all the other places we stayed one so it was alot of travelling) at a camp groud in comfortable cabins. However the accomodation was located right at the end of the airport, so close the cabins shook everytime a plane landed or took off!!!!! No matter we spent most of our time in Venice wandering around and taking in the sights, it was nice to have a free day that wasn't spent travelling.
The next day we left the bus tour for a rental car and Chris (very bravely) drove to Florence. It was very strange driving on the wrong side of the road and took us a while to get used to it. We also had trouble finding our accomodation here but after a few wrong turns(an hour and a half) and a hail storm we finally found it. All 3 of us loved Florence, we went to see the Michealangelo's David which was absolutely stunning and did a bit of shopping.
After 1 night in Florence, Chris braved the traffic again and drove us to Rome. It was a really nice journey, they have great roads between cities but driving into the city can be pretty nerve racking especially as everything is in Italian. We had 3 nights in Rome so plenty of time to go shopping and sight seeing too. The highlights were the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, St Peter's and the Sistine Chapel. We managed to see most of the other sights as well. It was very hot in Rome and there were thousands of people everywhere so although we really enjoyed our trip it was nice to get back home and relax for a few days.
We had a wonderful trip around Europe with mum and encourage anyone else who wants to, to come over for a visit and we'll show you around!!!
Missing everyone, lots of love, Aims and Chris xoxo
